Mauricio is currently a columnist for the newspaper El Espectador and was the winner of the 2018 Simón Bolívar Award in the Opinion and Analysis - Press category for his work. "The wounds of the mind".in which he makes a great reflection on language and lies. Read his column here

"Mauricio García has turned his weekly column into a space of tolerance and pedagogy, alien to the tension and acrimony of a large part of Colombian opinion. His column explores a constant concern of contemporary journalism: how one of the great conquests of digital society, the democratization of the possibility of informing, has granted unprecedented powers to those who make lies an effective form of political manipulation. The wounds of the mind are those of our inability to defend ourselves from unreason, but also to cultivate reasonable doubt. García Villegas' column is a wake-up call about our vulnerabilities and a warning about the consequences that the traps of language can have on our democracies", as stated in the web page of the Simón Bolívar National Prize. www.premiosimonbolivar.com
