School Library Gabriel Carreño Mallarino

The Los Cerros Gymnasium school library is a resource, product and service center that provides students with information and knowledge fundamental to the development of their academic activities.

Users develop in their community skills in informational competencies for learning and skills to consult information in different ways and, according to their questions, transform it, being creative in the production of new knowledge and truth.

The school library is integrated by spaces where students can have access to the collections, depending on their academic level. It has a Children's Library for grades transition to third grade; a General Library for grades four through eleventh grade, and a library for teachers, equipped with bibliographic material for exclusive consultation by teachers.

Dr. Gabriel Carreño Mallarino was the first rector of Gimnasio de Los Cerros. Lawyer of the National University, Doctor of Law, State Counselor, Ambassador to Spain and the United Nations, who left the magistracy of the Council of State to assume the rectorship of the school.

Mission

To serve the community of Los Cerros, through the organization and optimization of bibliographic, special and electronic resources to support the educational processes, to form a culture of self-learning and to enrich the information unit with projects that allow its development.

Vision

To have an infrastructure equipped with updated collections to support curricular processes and to have computer equipment, databases, multimedia and other technological formats required by the institution's users. On the other hand, integrate other school information units to exchange and interact with services and cultural activities of the libraries.

Hours of operation


Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 3:45 pm.

Consultation of loans, statement of accounts, access to resources, consultation with other libraries, request for articles and documents, request for a clearance of accounts.

LIBRARY SERVICES

External loan

Loan of bibliographic material to be consulted at home for a determined period of time, according to the type of resource and the User.

Interlibrary loan

Loan of bibliographic material with Libraries of other educational Institutions: Schools, Universities, Museums. Visits to Libraries of other Institutions, by means of a letter of introduction.

Consultation service

In room: The collection is open to users who require direct access to the material. The information unit has spacious rooms for individual study or group work.

Question and answer service

About the bibliographic material existing in the library or in other information units.

Extension Service

Activities for the promotion and encouragement of reading.

Reference and advice in the search for information

Advice in the search and retrieval of information both locally and in other institutions. Advice on the search and retrieval of information in internal and external databases. Advice on the use of bibliographic managers, intellectual property and copyrights.

User Training (International Literacy Program)

Development of the Information Literacy program: presentation of services, collections, information search and retrieval processes for students from 1st to 11th grade.

Target

Recognize the Library as a resource and service center that provides information that is fundamental to academic training and the formation of lifelong information literacy skills. Information search, access and retrieval practices and strategies.

Guided tours by courses with a tour of the library to inform about the organization of the collections, resources, sources, service and opening hours.

Reading promotion

Guide and recommend to students the titles and collections that they can read at their age.

Children's Library. At story time, students are given an introductory reading of new titles to recommend their use.

Suggestion and request for the acquisition of bibliographic material.

Through the BibloCerros library's Bibliographic Catalog you can suggest and request the acquisition of new material.

Loan of portable equipment and reading rooms.

Loan of laptops to students for classroom use.

Loan of the Children's and General Library rooms for class or group work.

Loan of the Children's and General Library rooms for exhibitions, conferences and cultural activities.

Library banking service

Loan of Reading Bibliographic material, for one school year, for the development of the bilingual program.

RIGHTS AND DUTIES OF USERS

Rights

Receive timely and satisfactory attention to requests for library services.
To have an environment conducive to reading, study and research.
Receive friendly and courteous treatment from the Library manager.
Obtain timely information about changes in services.

Reading promotion

Duties

Present the student card when requesting library services.
The card is for personal use and is not transferable.
Leave the material consulted on the tables.
Take care of Library materials, equipment and facilities.
Report lost or damaged materials.
Make good use of vocabulary.
Do not bring food or drink into the Library.
Do not talk loudly in the library rooms.
Do not use cell phones in the Library rooms.
Make good use of computer equipment: do not open videos or games.
Do not remove the material from the library without registering the loan.
Make recommendations and suggestions to the library manager to contribute to improvement.
