The Banco de Alimentos de Bogotá is a foundation that distributes food and other supplies to more than 1,120 foundations in the capital and surrounding municipalities, benefiting more than 330,000 people.
For several months, Gimnasio de Los Cerros has been working to build institutional ties with the Food Bank of Bogota, to the point that several eleventh grade students are developing their CAS program in this foundation.
The Class of 2019, which continues to leave its mark on our institution, was present last Tuesday, February 26 and Wednesday, February 27. The day began at 9:00 a.m., when we were warmly welcomed by the Food Bank's collaborators, who contextualized us about the difficult situation that millions of Colombians who suffer from hunger live daily and how this foundation works hard to mitigate this scourge. Afterwards, they gave us the industrial safety instructions and... let's get down to work.
In total, more than 115 markets were organized, benefiting 855 people. Likewise, 464 kg of bread were sorted, which will be consumed by 1,665 people; 435 kg of other foods were packed, benefiting 2,080 people. In addition, 384 kg of cookies were sorted and fed nearly 3,000 people.
During the work day, there was a very good atmosphere, everyone worked with enthusiasm, effort and joy. But we only found out the numbers at the end of the day, which left us pleasantly surprised: to see how, in a couple of hours of work during two consecutive days, we were able to have a positive impact on so many people, and that is something we did not expect.
