Los Cerros students excel in different areas of study

In the last month, Cerros students have participated in different academic and sports activities, in which they have achieved important accomplishments.

To begin with, students Juan Pablo Bonilla and José Gabriel Tovar, from the ninth grade A, qualified for the team that will represent Colombia in the "XIV International Jr. Science Olympiad", to be held December 3-12 in Arnhem, The Netherlands.

The qualifying rounds were held at the Antonio Nariño University. In total, there are six students from all over the country, within which Juan Pablo and José Gabriel are the only two from Bogotá.

On the other hand, Juan Andrés Betancourt, from grade Eleven A, Daniel Pinedo and Juan Antonio Velásquez, from Grade Ten A, will represent Los Cerros in the final of the "National Chemistry Olympiad", organized by the University of Antioquia.

The finals will be held in Medellín on November 2 and 3, and we wish them much success!

Last Sunday, October 22, in the Leon de Greiff auditorium, the awards ceremony of the "Chemistry Olympiad", organized by the National University of Colombia, in which more than 4,000 students from different schools across the country participated. The Cerros delegation was made up of five students, who qualified for the final and managed to reach the podium: Juan Antonio Velásquez, Andrés Felipe Romero, Juan Andrés Betancourt -silver medal-, Daniel García Valencia and Daniel Pinedo -bronze medal-.

From October 19 to 22 at the Campus of the Universidad de La Sabana, the Model United Nations took place "IRMUN VII, organized by the Iragua Gymnasium, in which students from the Los Cerros Gymnasium had a good participation.

Achievements were: Nicolás Aponte and Juan José Velásquez, best delegates; Felipe Chaves, Nicolás Villaneda and Sebastián Márquez, outstanding delegates; Juan Sebastián Martín, Juan Antonio Velásquez, Juan José Carreño and Sergio Rico, honorable mention (oral recognition).

Moving on to sports, Santiago Montes, from the ninth grade, participated for a month in national and international tournaments, in which he obtained very good results.

At the South American Youth Championship, held in Santiago de Chile, Santiago won the Bronze medal in doubles, U17 category. It is worth mentioning that this is the first time that a Colombian team gets this medal.

At the national level, Montes participated in the National Championship under 15 and under 21, which was held in the municipality of Sopo, Cundinamarca. There, she won a gold medal in the Individual, Gold in Doubles and Gold in Teams, U15 category. In the U21 category, he won the Bronze medal in individual.

Finally, at the Pan American Senior Championship held in Cartagena, Santiago faced the best players in the continent Congratulations to Santiago for his important achievements in table tennis!
