We have a chess champion in Cerros

Juan Felipe Lopez Sanchez, student of 9B, tied for first place in the III Caribbean Chess Tournament 2021, U-17 category, which was held in Cartagena in early October. "I feel very happy, grateful to God, my family and my school. It is a new experience in which I had the opportunity to resume both virtual and face-to-face chess, which I had not been able to do for a long time due to the pandemic", expressed the champion student.

The III Caribbean Chess Tournament has the endorsement of the Colombian Chess Federation FECODAZ and is valid for the international ranking, a very important aspect for Juan Felipe, because his new challenge is to enter the League of Bogota and, in his words, "continue resuming with the tournaments after this pandemic and continue participating in competitions to learn from each game and improve the level and rating in the scores".

"It was at school where I learned chess thanks to the teacher Miller Dominguez, also 'Ilde', who has always supported and motivated me to represent the school with a lot of pride, motivation and humility. I am very grateful to the school, my teachers, my classmates, in short, grateful for everything that has allowed my process as a student," said Juan Felipe.

"The support of the school has been fundamental and essential. His teachers have always been motivating and supporting him since he was very young. We are very grateful to God for belonging to the Cerros family," says Kathy Sanchez, Juan Felipe's mother.

"Chess is a sport that helps us not only to improve our level but also for life, knowing that there are moments when we win and others when we lose, but in the end we have the experience and the satisfaction of fulfilling our duty with dedication and discipline", is the reflection shared by our champion, whom we congratulate and of whom we are proud. From Cerros we endorse our support to his dreams and projects and we know that he will continue to bring many triumphs for the school and his family.
